This two hour workshop is full of insights, discussions, and practical strategies that you can implement immediately to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

 

  1. Workshop Goals and Objectives:

    • Goal: The primary goal of the workshop is to equip early childhood teachers, allied health professionals and families with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to create inclusive play and movement environments that promote the physical, social, and emotional development of children with autism, ADHD, and developmental movement delays.
    • Objectives:
      • To understand the unique needs and challenges of children with autism, ADHD, and developmental movement delays
      • To identify appropriate play and movement activities tailored to individual needs.
      • To develop strategies for promoting sensory integration and
        self-regulation, and managing challenging behaviours in children with special needs, such as aggression, impulsivity, and/or sensory sensitivities.
      • To create inclusive play spaces that foster engagement and social interaction.

  2. Target Audience:

    • The target audience includes early childhood educators, including teachers, teaching assistants, and caregivers, who work with children between the ages of 3 and 6, with a particular focus on those with autism, ADHD, and developmental movement delays.

  3. Content and Curriculum:

    • The curriculum will cover a range of topics, including:
      • Understanding the characteristics and behaviours associated with autism, ADHD, and developmental movement delays.
      • Implementing play-based interventions to enhance physical, emotional, social, and sensory development.
      • Strategies for promoting self-regulation and attention in children with autism, ADHD, and developmental movement delays.
      • Adapting play and movement activities to accommodate varying abilities and needs.

In this 2 hour workshop you will discover

  • How to support children with special needs who are disengaged from the typical routines and activities of your kindergarten program
  • How children's development and learning may be different for children with ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, global developmental delay, dyspraxia, trauma, etc.
  • The parts of the brain that we can tap into using movement and play to build the foundation for self-regulation, focus, attention and learning
  • 5 ways to support children who are having difficulty regulating their body, movement, emotions and play behaviours in a sensory rich classroom environment
  • 5 ways you can set up your play environments to promote the development of self-regulation, motor skill development, play, and learning

 

As a Masters qualified inclusion consultant, with 10 years experience working in early childhood, and an additional 5 years working with adults with special needs, I am dedicated to teaching you how to create a supportive and inclusive environment, that is less stressful for children with special needs and developmental delays, and most importantly less stressful for you.
